Janet Elizabeth Hall, MD, Discusses the Transition to Menopause
Janet Elizabeth Hall, MD, of Harvard Medical School, talks about the transition to menopause. In addition to the typical issues with disorganized menstrual cycles, physical and hormonal changes, and vasomotor symptoms, patients and their doctors should also be aware of some other problems that may arise. For instance, sleep disturbances can occur or patients can experience anxiety when estradiol levels suddenly plummet. Patients may also notice neurocognitive changes around this time, but it's important for doctors to explain to them that these issues will likely resolve once the hormones even out.
