Expert Explains Diagnosis of Thyroid Nodules

Thyroid nodules are areas of excess growth in the thyroid gland, and up to 30% of the population will have a thyroid nodule in their lifetime. Approximately 95% of thyroid nodules are benign, but any nodule greater than 1 cm should be tested for cancer.

Jennifer Kuo, MD, of Columbia University, explains the procedure to classify thyroid nodules as cancerous or noncancerous.
