'Legacy Effect' Demonstrated in DPPOS a Rule, Not an Exception

Hertzel C. Gerstein, MD, Director of Endocrinology & Metabolism at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, discusses long-term findings from the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPP0S).

Researchers found that in addition to preventing diabetes during 2.8 years of the initial Diabetes Prevention Program with lifestyle modifications and metformin, the effect continued for up to 16 years from the time of randomization. Gerstein explained how this reflects findings from other prevention trials.
